Murkomen Chairs Steering Committee as Preparations for 2026 Mashujaa Day Gather Pace

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has chaired a meeting of the National Celebrations Steering Committee to review preparations for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, which will be jointly hosted by Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties.

The meeting, held at Harambee House on Thursday afternoon, assessed the progress of infrastructure and logistical projects ahead of the national event. Murkomen said the decision to stage the celebrations across three counties reflects the Kenya Kwanza administration’s commitment to promoting inclusivity, equitable development and national unity by taking major national events to different regions of the country.

According to the Interior CS, the government is on course to complete key projects, including the upgrading of sports facilities, roads, energy infrastructure and other supporting amenities before the celebrations begin. The week-long programme will culminate in the national Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kipchoge Stadium in Eldoret.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretaries Dr. Raymond Omollo (Internal Security and National Administration), Dr. Patrick Mariru (Defence) and Elijah Mwangi (Sports), Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, Elgeyo-Marakwet Governor Wisely Rotich, Nandi County Executive Committee Member for Roads Eng. Robert Limo, alongside other senior national and county government officials involved in organising the event.
