Kisii County has emerged as one of Kenya’s top-performing counties in the Culture and Sports sector, according to the Infotrak CountyTrak Performance Index 2026.

The survey ranked Murang’a first with 51 per cent, while Kisii shared second place with Homa Bay at 49 per cent. Kisumu followed with 48 per cent, while Kiambu, Kwale, Tharaka Nithi and Lamu each scored 47 per cent. The national average across all counties stood at 43.3 per cent.

The assessment measured public satisfaction with county governments’ performance in promoting sports and culture. Residents evaluated efforts in developing recreational parks and public facilities, supporting sporting activities and stadiums, promoting cultural events and facilities, and maintaining museums and libraries.

Kisii’s strong showing suggests that residents appreciate the county government’s investment in preserving culture and supporting sports development. The ranking places the county among the national leaders in a devolved function that plays a key role in nurturing talent, preserving heritage and promoting community cohesion.
