Nyamira County Expands Water Connectivity Under Last-Mile Programme

More than 1,000 households in Nyamira Municipality and its surrounding areas are set to benefit from improved access to clean and safe water following the launch of a new last-mile water connectivity project.

Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo on Tuesday flagged off the distribution of pipes for the project alongside Lake Victoria South Water Development Agency (LVSWDA) Chief Executive Officer Jackline Kemunto.

The county government, in partnership with the agency, is implementing a 38-kilometre water distribution network aimed at extending water connections to households that have remained unserved.

Governor Nyaribo said the initiative forms part of his administration’s efforts to increase access to safe and reliable water for domestic use across the county.

He announced that the county has already received 1,000 smart water meters to facilitate new connections, with another 1,000 meters expected to be delivered to expand the programme and connect more consumers.

The governor also said the county is prioritising the solarisation of its water schemes following the establishment and operationalisation of the Nyamira Water and Sewerage Company. According to him, the move is expected to reduce operational costs, improve efficiency and guarantee a more reliable and sustainable water supply to residents.

The project is part of ongoing efforts by the county government and its partners to strengthen water infrastructure and increase access to clean water in Nyamira County.
