KISII, July 6, 2026 — A dormitory at Nduru Boys Senior High School in Gucha South Sub-county, Kisii County, was extensively damaged by fire on Monday evening, leaving 68 students displaced and destroying their personal belongings.

According to a police incident report from Nyamarambe Police Station, the fire broke out at around 7:00 p.m. in Nzaria Dormitory while students were attending their evening classes.

The incident was reported at 8:30 p.m. by the school’s principal, Mr. Fredrick Okombo.

Police officers led by the Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC) Gucha South and the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) Gucha South visited the scene and established that the blaze had already been extinguished through the efforts of students and members of the public.

The affected dormitory accommodated 68 students, the majority of whom are in Grade 10. The structure was extensively damaged, with students losing personal property in the fire.

Authorities confirmed that all students were safely accounted for, although two students were rushed to Nduru Level 4 Hospital after developing breathing complications caused by smoke inhalation while helping to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and investigations are underway.
