Police arresting the alleged woman

A woman in Jomvu, Mombasa County, has reportedly been arrested after allegedly preventing her son from sitting the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) because he had been assigned examination number 666.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as candidates continued with the national assessment, which is part of Kenya’s Competency-Based Education system.

According to reports, the mother was uncomfortable with the number allocated to her child and allegedly refused to allow him to participate in the examination. The number 666 is associated with negative symbolism in some religious and cultural beliefs, which may have contributed to her reaction.

Jomvu Police Commander Selinah Chirchir was reported to have said that the boy was rescued on Tuesday morning and taken to school to sit the assessment.

The reported intervention ensured that the child had an opportunity to participate in the national examination despite the disagreement surrounding his examination number.
