The Kisii Council of Elders, led by its chairman Mr. Matundura, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to individuals allegedly behind the violent attack on the Linda Mwananchi convoy in Keumbu, an incident that left one person dead and several others injured.

Speaking during a press briefing, Mr. Matundura said anyone who planned, financed or participated in the violence, regardless of their political or social status, should come forward within seven days and publicly apologize before the Council of Elders and the people of Kisii.

He said the elders are seeking accountability and reconciliation, urging those responsible to admit their role before further action is taken.

Mr. Matundura further stated that if no one comes forward within the seven-day deadline, the council will proceed with what he described as traditional prayers. According to him, the elders have already mobilized senior members of the community, including women aged 90 years and above to pray while naked and conduct the ritual in accordance with traditional Gusii customs.

He added that once the traditional prayers are performed, the elders should not be blamed for any consequences that may follow, saying they believe the rituals are intended to seek justice and reveal the truth.

The remarks have sparked public debate and are expected to draw mixed reactions from leaders and residents.

Authorities have not issued any official response to the elders’ ultimatum, and investigations into the Keumbu attack remain ongoing. The attack on the Linda Mwananchi convoy resulted in the death of one person and injuries to several others.
