Kisii County: Police have launched investigations after the bodies of two young girls were discovered in a banana plantation in Nkura 3 Village, Nyangoge Sub-location, Bomorenda Location, Suneka Division, Kisii South Sub-county.

The victims, identified as Annah Bahati and Stacy Nyanchama, aged approximately four and five years, were reported missing after disappearing while playing together at around 6:00 p.m. Their bodies were later found at about 10:00 p.m. in a nearby banana plantation next to Marble Hospital.

Preliminary reports indicate that investigators suspect the children may have been sexually assaulted, poisoned and killed before their bodies were dumped at the scene. A bottle believed to have contained Diazon poison was recovered near the bodies.

Police have cautioned that the exact cause of death has not yet been established, and the allegations of defilement and poisoning remain part of the ongoing investigation pending post-mortem examinations and forensic analysis.

Officers from Suneka Police Station, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), responded to the scene after receiving the report. Kisii South Deputy County Commissioner Grace Ouma also visited the scene.

The bodies were removed to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) Mortuary as detectives begin investigations to identify those responsible for the suspected killings.

No arrests had been made by the time of publication, and police have appealed to members of the public with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
