Kindiki Chairs High-Level Meeting on Eastern Africa Oil Refinery Preparations

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday chaired a high-level government meeting at Harambee House Annex in Nairobi to review progress on preparations for the proposed Eastern Africa Oil Refinery project.
The meeting brought together relevant Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and heads of government agencies to deliberate on legal, regulatory and administrative measures that have been undertaken ahead of the project’s implementation.
According to the Deputy President, the discussions focused on ensuring the necessary institutional frameworks are in place, while also outlining requirements for stakeholder engagement expected in the coming weeks.
The meeting forms part of ongoing inter-ministerial consultations aimed at coordinating government efforts before the project moves to its next phase.
The proposed Eastern Africa Oil Refinery is expected to play a strategic role in strengthening regional energy security, enhancing local value addition and supporting industrial growth, subject to the completion of the required legal, regulatory and stakeholder consultation processes.
