Several people sustained injuries on Saturday after a tipper truck lost control at Kemera Shopping Centre in Nyamira county, causing a serious road accident that left a trail of destruction.
According to eyewitnesses, the tipper first rammed into a lorry before veering off the road and ploughing through roadside traders and pedestrians. The vehicle eventually came to a halt after crashing into an electricity pole.
The impact left several traders’ stalls destroyed as panicked residents and motorists rushed to rescue those trapped or injured. Emergency responders and good Samaritans quickly evacuated the victims to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police officers arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area as investigations into the cause of the crash began. Preliminary reports indicate the driver may have lost control of the heavy commercial vehicle, although the exact cause has not yet been established.
The accident also disrupted traffic at the busy shopping centre for several hours as authorities worked to clear the wreckage.
