The People’s Renaissance Movement (PM) Party has condemned the violence and political intolerance witnessed in Homa Bay County during the Linda Mwananchi tour, calling for urgent action to protect political freedoms ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a statement signed by Secretary General Anthony Buluma, the party said incidents of political violence, goonism and what it described as political zoning were a threat to Kenya’s democratic progress and constitutional freedoms.

The party argued that Kenyans should be free to travel across the country, attend political rallies and promote their preferred political causes without fear or intimidation.

“Political competition is won through persuasion, not intimidation,” the party said, stressing that the State has a responsibility to guarantee citizens the freedom to participate in political activities without fear.

PM Party further expressed concern over what it termed repeated failures by security agencies to protect political actors and members of the public.

The party linked the Homa Bay incidents to the violence witnessed during the Ol Kalou by-election, claiming that a pattern of political violence was emerging ahead of the 2027 polls.

PM Party has consequently called for accountability within the security sector and specifically demanded the resignation of Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

According to the party, the two officials should take responsibility for what it considers failures to safeguard Kenyans’ constitutional freedoms and security.

The party warned that political tensions could intensify as the country moves closer to the 2027 elections, saying it has lost confidence in the current leadership of the security apparatus to deliver a free, fair and peaceful electoral process.

PM Party said all political formations should be allowed to campaign on a level playing field, without intimidation, violence or restrictions based on political affiliation.

The party reaffirmed its call for a Kenya where political power is determined by the will of the people rather than fear, saying every citizen should be free to participate in the country’s political process
