Linda Mwananchi Leaders Condemn Attack on Convoy in Keumbu, Demand Action

KISII, July 5 – Linda Mwananchi leaders led by Hon. Clive Gisairo and Hon. Barongo have strongly condemned the attack on vehicles belonging to the movement during Friday’s political tour at Keumbu in Kisii County.

Speaking after the incident, the leaders described the attack as an assault on democratic freedoms and called on security agencies to investigate those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.

They said political intolerance and violence have no place in a democratic society, arguing that every Kenyan has a constitutional right to assemble, campaign and express political opinions without fear of intimidation or attacks.

The leaders urged supporters to remain peaceful despite the incident and cautioned against retaliation, saying the movement would continue engaging citizens through lawful and peaceful political activities.

The attack occurred as the Linda Mwananchi team was touring parts of Kisii County, where tensions rose after vehicles associated with the movement were targeted at Keumbu. The incident came amid growing concerns over rising political violence in the county ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Hon. Gisairo and Hon. Barongo appealed to the National Police Service to conduct a thorough investigation, identify those behind the attack and enhance security during political gatherings to prevent similar incidents.

They maintained that violence should never be used to silence political opponents and called on all leaders to embrace issue-based politics that promotes peace, unity and respect for democratic rights.

No official report on injuries or the full extent of damage to the affected vehicles had been released by the time of publication.
