The Matatu Owners Association (MOA) has assured Kenyans that public transport services will continue uninterrupted on June 25, 2026, despite concerns over possible disruptions linked to planned commemorations of the June 25, 2024 events.

In a statement issued by MOA President Albert Karakacha, the association said matatu owners, drivers, conductors, and support staff had been advised to remain calm and continue serving the public responsibly and professionally. The association emphasized its commitment to facilitating the movement of people and goods while respecting the constitutional rights of all citizens and prioritizing public safety.

The transport lobby noted that it stands in solidarity with families affected by the events of June 25, 2024, adding that justice, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law are vital for national healing. However, it stressed that maintaining essential services is equally important and urged operators across the country to avoid panic and carry on with their daily operations.

MOA also condemned violence, looting, arson, vandalism, and destruction of property, saying the safety of passengers, transport workers, businesses, and vehicles remains its foremost priority. The association called on all parties to exercise restraint and ensure that any activities conducted during the day remain peaceful.

Further, the association appealed to citizens, civil society organizations, businesses, community leaders, and government agencies to embrace dialogue and work together in promoting justice, accountability, and national unity. The statement comes as security agencies and various sectors prepare for activities expected to mark the second anniversary of the anti-government protests that rocked the country in June 2024.
