Ecobank Kenya has appointed renowned entrepreneur and corporate leader Flora Mutahi as a Non-Executive Director to its Board, a move aimed at strengthening the bank’s strategic leadership and advancing support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and women-led businesses.

The appointment, announced on Monday, comes as the lender seeks to deepen its presence in Kenya and position the country as a key gateway for Pan-African trade. Mutahi, a respected business executive with more than three decades of experience, is best known as the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Melvin Marsh International, a company that has grown into a leading player in the tea and beverage industry in East Africa.

Over the years, Mutahi has earned recognition for her role in promoting manufacturing, innovation, and enterprise development. She made history as the first woman to chair the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) and later became the first female Chairperson of the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), where she championed policies aimed at strengthening the private sector and enhancing the business environment.

Ecobank Kenya Interim Board Chairman Yesse Oenga said Mutahi’s extensive experience in entrepreneurship, governance, and policy advocacy would provide valuable guidance as the bank pursues its next phase of growth. He noted that her track record in building resilient businesses and shaping private sector development aligns with the institution’s long-term vision.

Speaking after accepting the appointment, Mutahi said she was honoured to join the board and expressed optimism about contributing to the bank’s strategic ambitions. She pledged to work closely with fellow board members and management in promoting innovation, sustainable growth, and long-term value creation for customers across Kenya and the wider East African region.

The appointment comes at a time when Ecobank Kenya is intensifying efforts to expand its footprint and strengthen its role in facilitating cross-border business. The bank says the addition of diverse expertise and visionary leadership to its board is central to its mission of enabling businesses to grow and thrive across Africa.
