Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and former Chief Justice David Maraga have held a meeting, drawing fresh attention to the shifting political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Images shared on social media showed the two leaders together, although neither side revealed the agenda of the discussions. The meeting nevertheless comes at a time when key political figures are increasingly engaging in consultations amid growing speculation over possible alliances and the race to succeed President William Ruto.

Maraga, who has declared his presidential bid, has recently intensified his public engagements, positioning himself as a champion of constitutionalism, integrity and accountability. Matiang’i, meanwhile, has also stepped up his political activities, with supporters urging him to seek the country’s top seat.

While no official statement was issued following the meeting, the encounter has sparked debate over what role the two leaders could play in the unfolding 2027 political equation.

As political temperatures gradually rise, such high-profile meetings are expected to fuel further speculation over alliances and strategies that could shape the next General Election.
