Bus Burnt, Several Injured as Rival Camps of Governor Susan Kihika and Kuresoi North MP Clash

Tension erupted in Kuresoi North on Friday after supporters linked to Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and area MP Alfred Mutai engaged in violent confrontations that left several people injured and a bus reduced to ashes.

The clashes broke out during a youth and women empowerment programme in Nyota Ward, bringing activities to a standstill as rival groups exchanged blows and hurled stones at each other. Panic gripped residents as the unrest spread around the venue.

In the chaos, a bus was set on fire while a number of vehicles sustained damage. Witnesses said some of those caught up in the melee suffered injuries, prompting efforts to restore order and assist victims.

The incident laid bare the growing political rivalry between allies of Governor Kihika and those backing MP Mutai, with both camps accusing each other of provoking the violence. Residents expressed concern over the increasing hostility and called on leaders to exercise restraint.

Security officers were deployed to the area to contain the situation and prevent further escalation. Authorities had not immediately disclosed the number of casualties or announced any arrests.

The violence comes at a time when political temperatures are beginning to rise ahead of the 2027 General Election, with observers warning against turning community events into battlegrounds for supremacy contests.
