Violence Erupts At UDA Meeting In Embu As Teargas Disperses Crowd

A United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates meeting in Embu was disrupted by violence after groups of youths stormed Nembure Stadium in Manyatta Constituency, triggering clashes with security officers and forcing the event to end prematurely.

Police fired tear gas as the situation deteriorated, sending people at the venue scrambling for safety amid scenes of confusion and panic.

The escalating unrest also resulted in the destruction of property, with several vehicles parked at the stadium reportedly damaged and others set on fire.

Security officers moved to secure and evacuate Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as tensions mounted at the venue.

The incident has since triggered a political fallout, with Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire condemning the violence and accusing Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji of being behind the unrest.

Mbarire said political differences should not be resolved through intimidation or violence, warning against the use of youths to disrupt political gatherings.

Kindiki, meanwhile, called on political leaders to concentrate on policies and development issues rather than mobilising young people to cause chaos.

The violence has raised fresh concerns over the safety of political gatherings and the role of organised youth groups in political disputes as parties intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
