Caleb Amisi’s Remarks Expose Emerging Rift Claims Within Linda Mwananchi

A social media post by Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has fuelled speculation of internal divisions within the opposition’s Linda Mwananchi movement after he publicly cautioned Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata over his reported association with the coalition.

In the post, Amisi welcomed Kang’ata to Linda Mwananchi but asserted that the movement “shall never be hijacked” and claimed that its founders were “still alive and kicking.” He also warned against what he described as attempts to misuse Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Amisi further criticised Kang’ata’s political past, describing him as a recent defector from President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and suggesting he had yet to fully embrace the opposition’s ideals. He also urged him to “keep your Murang’a county money,” adding that Kenyans would fund the movement’s campaigns.

The remarks have sparked debate over whether there are emerging disagreements within Linda Mwananchi regarding leadership, new entrants and the direction of the coalition ahead of the 2027 General Election.

However, it remains unclear whether Amisi was speaking on behalf of the Linda Mwananchi leadership or expressing his personal views. The post does not indicate that it is an official statement from the coalition, and no authorised spokesperson for Linda Mwananchi has publicly endorsed his remarks.

The comments come just hours after Linda Mwananchi issued an official press statement accusing the government and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of attempting to create conditions for postponing the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.

Neither Kang’ata, Edwin Sifuna nor the Linda Mwananchi leadership had publicly responded to Amisi’s remarks at the time of publication.
