Linda Mwananchi Alleges Plot to Disrupt Ol Kalou By-Election, Urges IEBC to Proceed with Poll

The opposition-affiliated Linda Mwananchi movement has accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the government of laying the groundwork to postpone the forthcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, while alleging plans to trigger violence in the constituency.

In a press statement dated July 11, 2026, the movement claimed it had noted what it described as actions and statements by the electoral commission that were intended to create conditions for delaying the poll.

The group further alleged that the government had mobilised security personnel and individuals from neighbouring counties to disrupt its political activities in Ol Kalou. According to the statement, the alleged attacks would then be used as justification to declare insecurity in the area and postpone the by-election.

Linda Mwananchi said that instead of proceeding with its planned activities in Ol Kalou, it would tour Nyahururu, arguing that the move would frustrate what it termed attempts to derail the electoral process.

The movement maintained that the people of Ol Kalou want the by-election conducted as scheduled and urged voters to reject electoral bribery and safeguard their democratic rights. The statement also invoked the words of independence hero Dedan Kimathi, calling on residents to remain steadfast in defending their sovereignty.

The Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election is expected to be closely watched amid heightened political activity and competing campaigns by various political formations.
