Wiper Patriotic Front leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has officially declared that he will contest for the presidency in Kenya’s General Election scheduled for next year, saying he is ready to lead the country through what he described as a new chapter of national renewal.

Speaking at the Wiper Party headquarters in Nairobi, Kalonzo also announced three key appointments that took effect immediately as part of the party’s reorganisation.

The appointments are:

  • Jamleck Kamau – Chairman of the Wiper Party.
  • Mohammed Ali “Jicho Pevu”, the Nyali MP – Deputy Party Leader.
  • Ndegwa Njiru – Party Spokesperson.

Kalonzo said the newly appointed officials are patriotic Kenyans committed to the Komboa Kenya movement, whose objective is to rescue the country from its current challenges.

The Wiper leader maintained that the opposition remains united and is working towards forming a united opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 General Election. He warned that failure to remain united would give President William Ruto an advantage in the race.

“We are still holding conversations and remain committed to presenting a united opposition government,” Kalonzo said.

On electoral preparations, Kalonzo called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure next year’s elections are free, fair, credible and transparent. He urged IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon not to be intimidated, but to discharge his constitutional mandate independently.

He also challenged the electoral commission to introduce strong regulations to curb voter bribery, describing the practice as an early indicator of possible electoral malpractice. Kalonzo encouraged Kenyans to emulate what he termed the “Ol Kalou way,” referring to the recent by-election.

Addressing the government’s proposed Vision 2060 agenda, Kalonzo argued that Kenya should first fully implement Vision 2030 before embarking on a new long-term development blueprint.

“The conversation Kenyans are having today is about ensuring free, credible and transparent elections next August. Once we achieve that, we will ensure Vision 2030 succeeds,” he said.

Kalonzo reiterated his belief that President William Ruto will serve only one term, expressing confidence that the opposition will unseat the Kenya Kwanza administration in the next election.

He further assured Kenyans that a future government led by the opposition would be inclusive and would ensure that no region or community is left behind.

The Wiper Party also insisted that the united opposition’s primary objective is to defeat President Ruto in the 2027 General Election, arguing that attempts to divide opposition leaders are intended to improve the President’s re-election chances. Party leaders maintained that despite such efforts, the opposition remains united and focused on forming the next government.
