Ruto Leads 2027 Presidential Race in New Infotrak Poll as Broad-Based Government Divides Opinion

President William Ruto would win the largest share of support if the 2027 General Election were held today, according to the latest Infotrak Voice of the People Poll released on Monday, 13 July 2026.

The nationwide survey, unveiled at Afrotrak offices, interviewed 3,000 adult Kenyans across all 47 counties between 22 and 26 June 2026 to gauge the country’s political mood ahead of the next General Election.

According to Infotrak, respondents aged 18 to 26 years were interviewed through face-to-face interviews, while those aged 28 years and above participated through computer-assisted interviews. The survey comprised 54 percent male and 46 percent female respondents.

Public Opinion on the Broad-Based Government

The poll found that 79 percent of respondents are aware of the Broad-Based Government arrangement. Nairobi recorded the highest level of awareness at 84 percent, followed by the Rift Valley at 81 percent.

When asked whether they support the Broad-Based Government, 33 percent said they support it, while 37 percent said they oppose it. Another 27 percent said they neither support nor oppose the arrangement.

Supporters credited the Broad-Based Government with promoting peace, political stability and development. Those opposed argued that it primarily benefits politicians, has contributed to increased corruption and weakened the country’s opposition.

Presidential Race

In the presidential preference poll, President William Ruto emerged as the frontrunner with 32 percent support.

He was followed by:

• Kalonzo Musyoka – 13%
• Dr. Fred Matiang’i – 12%
• Edwin Sifuna – 12%
• Rigathi Gachagua – 4%
• Babu Owino – 3%
• David Maraga – 2%
• Martha Karua – 1%

About 21 percent of respondents remained undecided, while the remaining support was shared among other aspirants.

Regionally, the survey indicates that President Ruto leads in North Eastern, Rift Valley, Nyanza, the Coast and Nairobi. Kalonzo Musyoka leads in Eastern Kenya, Edwin Sifuna tops Western Kenya, while Fred Matiang’i records his strongest support in Central Kenya. Rigathi Gachagua also maintains support within parts of the Central region.

Infotrak further observed that President Ruto enjoys support across different age groups and genders, Edwin Sifuna performs strongly among Generation Z voters, while Dr. Fred Matiang’i attracts more support from mature adult voters.

Shifts Since Last Year

Compared with last year’s findings, the poll indicates that President Ruto and Edwin Sifuna have gained support.

On the other hand, David Maraga, Fred Matiang’i, Martha Karua, Babu Owino and Rigathi Gachagua have registered declines in their respective support levels.

Running Mate Preferences

Among respondents who support the Broad-Based Government, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki emerged as the most preferred running mate.

Other names mentioned include Gladys Wanga, Hassan Joho, Oburu Odinga, Anne Waiguru, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetang’ula and Kisii Governor Simba Arati.

However, 37 percent of respondents said they were unsure who should become the coalition’s running mate. The survey also found that Generation Z respondents showed stronger preference for Gladys Wanga.

Opposition Coalition

Within the United Opposition, Kalonzo Musyoka emerged as the preferred presidential candidate with 27 percent support, narrowly ahead of Dr. Fred Matiang’i at 26 percent.

Edwin Sifuna followed with 19 percent, while Rigathi Gachagua received 9 percent.

Regarding the most preferred opposition ticket, respondents ranked the combinations as follows:

• Kalonzo Musyoka – Edwin Sifuna: 23%
• Kalonzo Musyoka – Fred Matiang’i: 16%
• Fred Matiang’i – Kalonzo Musyoka: 15%
• Fred Matiang’i – Rigathi Gachagua: 5%
• Rigathi Gachagua – Fred Matiang’i: 4%
• Fred Matiang’i – Martha Karua: 4%

Another 21 percent said they were unsure which opposition combination would be most competitive.

Political Parties

The poll also ranked political parties by popularity.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) led with 22 percent support, closely followed by ODM at 21 percent.

Other parties ranked as follows:

• Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) – 9%
• Jubilee Party – 6%
• Wiper Democratic Movement – 5%

A small proportion of respondents reported having no party preference or declined to disclose their choice.

Infotrak noted that UDA recorded the biggest gains in popularity, followed by DCP, while ODM and Jubilee registered the largest declines.

Overall, the survey suggests that the Broad-Based Government has gained more public traction than other emerging political formations, including Linda Mwananchi and the United Alternative Government, as Kenya’s political landscape continues to evolve ahead of the 2027 General Election.
