Babu Owino Tops Infotrak Ranking of Best-Performing MPs with 80% Approval Rating

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has emerged as Kenya’s best-performing MP in the latest Infotrak survey, which placed him at the top with an 80 percent approval rating.

The survey, released by Infotrak, evaluated Members of Parliament based on public perception, constituency visibility, service delivery, and implementation of development projects.

Kabuchai MP Joseph Kalasinga followed closely in second place with a 78 percent approval rating, while Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and Taveta MP John Bwire tied for third position, each scoring 76 percent.

A number of legislators recorded a joint score of 73 percent, including Samburu West MP Josephine Lesuuda, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek, Keiyo South MP Gideon Kimaiyo Kipsiele Koech, Belgut MP Nelson Koech, and Muthureiwini MP Kaguchia Gichohi.

Others who featured strongly in the rankings include Aldai MP Marianne Kitany, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, Samburu East MP Jackson Lekumontare, Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako, Mbooni MP Erastus Kivasu Nzioka, Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi, and Awendo MP Walter Owino, all of whom posted approval ratings between 70 and 72 percent.

According to Infotrak, the survey highlights lawmakers who have maintained strong public confidence through active constituency engagement, legislative work, and delivery of development projects.

Following the announcement, Babu Owino expressed gratitude to the people of Embakasi East for their continued support, saying his leadership is anchored on trust and service delivery.

He highlighted key achievements in his constituency, including the construction of numerous classrooms, completion of two primary schools and one secondary school, and ongoing projects at Tasia Primary School and another in the GSU area. He also noted the rehabilitation of all public schools in Embakasi East to improve learning conditions.

In the water sector, he said the constituency has benefited from the drilling of approximately 30 boreholes aimed at providing clean and safe water to residents.

On infrastructure, he reported the construction and improvement of about 170 roads, including major roads and feeder routes to ease transport within the constituency.

Babu also pointed to empowerment initiatives, including a women’s table banking programme that has grown to a fund of nearly KSh 8 million. He said the initiative, which started with small contributions, now supports women in accessing loans and growing their businesses.

He further stated that his office has worked with various companies to create employment opportunities for young people in Embakasi East, resulting in increased job placements.

In Parliament, he emphasized his role in legislative oversight and accountability, noting that he has sponsored several bills. One proposes reforms to Kenya School of Law admission requirements, arguing that graduates of recognized universities should not be blocked by KCSE English or Kiswahili grades. Another bill seeks to expunge minor offences from criminal records after individuals have served their sentences, excluding serious crimes.

He also said he continues to support youth and women empowerment programs and advocates for alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to strengthen families and community cohesion.

Babu concluded by thanking residents for their confidence in his leadership, promising to continue delivering development and representation.
