Nyamira Set for Major Sports Boost as Plans for 10,000-Seater Esanige Stadium Gather Pace

Nyamira County is edging closer to realizing one of its biggest sports infrastructure projects after senior government officials conducted an inspection of the proposed Esanige Stadium site ahead of the anticipated groundbreaking ceremony.

The county administration, led by County Secretary Dr. Jack Magara, hosted Principal Secretary for Defence Dr. Patrick Mariru, who visited the Esanige Grounds to assess the site earmarked for the construction of the modern 10,000-capacity stadium. President William Ruto is expected to preside over the groundbreaking ceremony in the coming weeks.

According to county leaders, the facility is expected to transform the local sporting landscape by providing a world-class venue for competitions and nurturing talent while creating new economic opportunities for residents. The project is also seen as a key step towards positioning sports as a significant contributor to Nyamira County’s economy.

Dr. Mariru was accompanied by Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga during the inspection tour. Several county officials also attended the exercise, including CECMs Bernard Maina (Lands), Dr. John Matiang’i (Gender, Youth and Sports), Stephen Oboso (Finance), and Dr. Donald Mogoi (Health).

Chief Officers Rael Momanyi (Gender and Sports) and Dr. Ombogo Marwanga (Lands), among other senior county officials, were also present. Leaders expressed optimism that once completed, the stadium will not only provide a home for sports activities but also stimulate business, tourism, and employment opportunities across Nyamira County.
