Kebirigo High School Dormitory Gutted by Fire in Nyamira County

A fire broke out at Kebirigo High School in Nyamira County on Saturday evening, destroying part of the school’s infrastructure and triggering panic among students and residents.

The blaze, which erupted at the institution located in West Mugirango Constituency, was reported shortly after dusk, with thick smoke seen rising from the school compound as students and members of the public scrambled to salvage belongings and prevent the flames from spreading.

According to preliminary reports, the fire affected one of the school’s dormitories, although the full extent of the damage had not been immediately established. Emergency responders and local residents moved to the scene to help contain the inferno.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or fatalities, and all students were said to have been accounted for. Authorities had not disclosed what caused the fire, but investigations were expected to commence to determine how the blaze started.

Nyamira County disaster response teams and police officers were among those responding to the incident as efforts continued to secure the affected area and assess losses.
