The Linda Mwananchi movement has announced plans to launch its political party on Friday, October 30, 2026, as its leaders call for constitutional accountability, political unity and greater attention to the challenges facing ordinary Kenyans.
Speaking during a press briefing, movement officials said the anticipated launch would mark a significant step in building a political outfit anchored on constitutionalism, accountability, social justice and public participation.
The chairman of the Linda Mwananchi coalition, said the movement would make an important announcement on Friday following months of preparations behind the scenes.
He said the movement was nearing the end of its organisational phase, urging prospective aspirants to make decisions about joining the outfit before the deadline.
Nyongesa called on leaders interested in running under the Linda Mwananchi banner to commit themselves to the movement’s principles and demonstrate their willingness to work for ordinary citizens.
He added that Friday’s announcement would shape the movement’s future direction.
The organising secretary of the Linda Mwananchi Nairobi chapter and an aspiring Member of Parliament for Westlands Constituency, urged Kenyans to familiarise themselves with the movement’s agenda and participate in shaping its policies and leadership structures.
He also said the movement was committed to promoting democratic values, respecting diverse opinions and creating opportunities for inclusive public participation.
She further maintained that the party’s success would depend on its commitment to the people and the values it seeks to uphold.
Leaders endorse Sifuna for 2027 presidential race.
Meanwhile,Linda mwananchi asprants at the briefing called on opposition leaders to rally behind Edwin Watenya Sifuna as the united opposition’s presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.
They also criticised President William Ruto over what they described as a failure to comply with constitutional requirements concerning the composition of the Cabinet.
They claimed that a court ruling had declared the Cabinet unconstitutional and required corrective action within 14 days. They argued that compliance with court decisions was essential to upholding the Constitution and the rule of law.
They subsequently urged opposition leaders to support Situna, saying the country needed a leader committed to defending the Constitution.
They said opposition should consider Sifuna’s endorsement, arguing that opposition aspirants would have a better chance of defeating President Ruto if they united behind one candidate.

They said political leaders should exercise restraint and respect one another, particularly within the united opposition, adding that insults and personal attacks could undermine efforts to build political unity.
They also urged opposition leaders to maintain political tolerance and constructive engagement.
Leaders demand end to university lecturers’ strike
The briefing also addressed the ongoing university lecturers’ strike, with speakers calling on the government, university managements and lecturers to resolve the dispute and facilitate the resumption of learning.
A representative speaking on education issues demanded meaningful negotiations, a time-bound proposal for resolving the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) dispute, and greater accountability in university funding.
The speakers also called for a comprehensive plan to address staffing shortages and structural challenges facing public universities.
They urged authorities to communicate clearly with students about when learning would resume and how missed academic activities would be recovered.
They further appealed to parents, members of the public and activists to support students raising concerns over the disruption of university education.
The speakers alleged that demonstrators had previously been attacked by individuals they described as thugs, calling for the protection of students exercising their right to peaceful assembly.
The lecturers’ strike, they said, had disrupted academic activities for approximately one month, intensifying calls for an urgent resolution.
The Linda Mwananchi movement’s planned Friday launch comes amid growing political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election, with its leaders seeking to consolidate support around their political agenda and expand participation in the movement
