Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka with his delegation at Wamunyoro

The latest visitor is Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who arrived at Gachagua’s residence on Monday accompanied by a delegation of leaders, barely six days after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna led members of the Linda Mwananchi movement to the same home.

The two visits, involving leaders from different political formations, have brought fresh attention to Gachagua’s place in the evolving opposition landscape and the negotiations expected to shape the next presidential contest.

On October 20, Sifuna and his entourage met Gachagua in an engagement that brought together figures associated with Linda Mwananchi and the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP). The delegation included several political leaders, among them Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

Kalonzo’s visit is particularly significant given his longstanding presidential ambitions and his efforts to position himself as a key player in any negotiations aimed at assembling a united opposition front.

Gachagua, the former Deputy President who has emerged as an influential figure in opposition politics, has also been at the centre of discussions on how leaders opposed to President William Ruto’s administration can consolidate their support ahead of the next election.

The presence of several leaders alongside Kalonzo adds another dimension to the meeting, suggesting that the discussions could extend beyond personal political relations to broader questions about regional interests, coalition strategy and the future direction of the opposition.

As the 2027 elections approach, opposition leaders face the challenge of bringing together different political parties, regional constituencies and presidential ambitions under a common platform.

Kalonzo has consistently sought to strengthen his position in national politics, drawing on his experience in government and his political influence in Ukambani and beyond.

For Gachagua, engagement with leaders from different political backgrounds offers an opportunity to expand his political networks and contribute to the formation of a broader opposition movement.

However, whether the Wamunyoro meeting will produce a formal political agreement remains to be seen.

The critical questions include who would lead a possible joint presidential ticket, how participating parties would share political responsibilities and what framework would guide cooperation between the various camps.
