Television personality Trisha Khalid has been named the new co-host of Hello Mr Right, joining longtime presenter Dr.Ofweneke as the dating reality show prepares to launch its fifth season later this month.

Khalid’s appointment follows weeks of speculation on social media, where viewers suggested several names for the position. Show officials said five candidates were considered, with the final selection based on personality, television experience, authenticity and views on love and marriage.

“Everything settled on Trisha Khalid. That’s why we’re here,” the show’s management said during her unveiling.

Khalid said her partnership with Dr. Ofweneka would bring a different dynamic to the programme, joking that she was ready to challenge the veteran host.

“I’m about to stress him out,” she said.

Her arrival also provided a preview of some of the contentious issues expected to feature in the new season, including money, financial independence, household responsibilities and changing expectations between men and women.

Ofweneke argued that financial literacy should be an important consideration when choosing a marriage partner, saying an individual should demonstrate an ability to manage their own finances before taking on shared family responsibilities.

Khalid, however, maintained that financial stability remains an important consideration for women looking for partners, even when they are financially independent.

“I’m up for a man who would give me money, because I also have my own money,” she said.

The discussion extended to household responsibilities, particularly cooking, with Ofweneke describing preparing meals for a spouse as a form of affection rather than an obligation.

The differing views reflect the broader themes that Hello Mr Right plans to explore in its fifth season, including financial expectations, gender roles, family influence and the balance between traditional and modern approaches to relationships.

The programme’s producers said the new season will bring together contestants with varied perspectives on dating and marriage, providing a platform for debates over what partners expect from each other.

Season Five rollout programme will return to television in two stages.

The October 17 broadcast will focus on the auditions, giving viewers an opportunity to see the men and women who competed for a place on the show and those who ultimately made the cut.

The fifth season officially begins on October 31, when the first full episode featuring the selected contestants will premiere. New episodes will then air every Saturday at 8pm.

The programme will be broadcast on StarTimes’ Rembo TV, Channel 113, as well as DTV Channel 24.

Khalid joins Ofweneke after previous seasons featured different co-hosts, continuing the programme’s format of introducing a new presenting partner while retaining its lead host.

The fifth season is expected to place particular focus on how financial independence, marriage expectations and changing gender roles are shaping relationships among Kenyans.
