Garissa Attack On Opposition Leaders Sparks Call For Probe

An attack targeting opposition leaders in Garissa on Saturday has sparked condemnation, with the Wantam Movement calling on police to launch an immediate investigation and bring those responsible to justice.

The leaders affected include Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Attorney General Justin Muturi, Dadaab MP Mohammed Ali and former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.

In a statement, the Wantam Movement described the incident as a grave matter that should not be taken lightly, warning that such attacks could deepen political divisions and create fear among Kenyans.

The movement said the attack amounted to an attempted assassination, and urged the Inspector General of Police to establish what happened, identify those behind the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is arrested and prosecuted.

The group maintained that political leaders and citizens must be allowed to participate freely in public and political affairs without intimidation or violence.

“We will not be cowed, intimidated, or silenced,” the movement said, insisting that it would continue to advocate for democracy, justice and peace.

The incident comes amid heightened political activity across the country as various opposition formations intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The Wantam Movement further appealed to Kenyans to remain united, saying the country belongs to all its citizens regardless of their political affiliations.

The circumstances surrounding the Garissa incident, including the identities and motives of those allegedly involved, remain subject to investigation.
