Senior CID Officer Killed, MCA Injured in Deadly Nine-Vehicle Crash at Karai

A tragic road accident involving nine vehicles on the busy Nairobi–Nakuru Highway has claimed the life of a senior police officer and left several other people injured. The crash occurred at Karai, a section of the highway that has witnessed numerous accidents over the years.

Among those who lost their lives was Nyandarua County Criminal Investigations Officer John Rioba. His death has sent shockwaves through the security fraternity, where he was known for his role in leading criminal investigations within the county.

Uasin Gishu Member of County Assembly Regina Chumba was among those injured in the pile-up. Reports indicate that she sustained chest injuries and was taken for medical attention. Her condition is being monitored as doctors assess the extent of her injuries.

The accident caused a major traffic disruption along the highway as emergency responders, police officers and members of the public rushed to the scene to assist victims and clear the wreckage. The involvement of multiple vehicles highlighted the severity of the collision.

Authorities have launched investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the crash. The tragedy has once again renewed concerns about road safety on the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway, with calls for motorists to exercise greater caution, especially on busy sections prone to accidents.
