Linda Mwananchi leaders led by Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and several other political leaders have arrived in Homa Bay County despite attempts to block their entry into the region.

The leaders were forced to use alternative routes after groups of youths reportedly blocked roads and disrupted their planned movement to various parts of the county.

Videos circulating on social media showed groups of young men, some wearing ODM-branded T-shirts, engaging in confrontations and throwing stones at each other as tensions escalated in parts of Homa Bay.

Several youths were reportedly injured during the clashes and taken to local health facilities for treatment.

In some areas, police officers were seen escorting the Linda Mwananchi leaders as they navigated through the tense areas. The leaders reportedly changed routes in several instances to avoid confrontations and reach residents.

Despite the disruptions, the political leaders managed to reach their supporters and address gatherings in different parts of the county.

The arrival of the leaders was met by what appeared to be enthusiastic crowds, with residents turning up to listen to their messages despite the earlier incidents of violence and road blockages.

The developments come against the backdrop of heightened political activity in Homa Bay, with rival political camps mobilising supporters ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The incidents have raised fresh concerns over the safety of political gatherings and the possibility of political differences spilling into violence.
