A group of young leaders from the Gusii community has thrown its weight behind Kisii Governor Simba Arati, proposing him as a potential Deputy President in the 2027 General Election alongside President William Ruto.

The youth caucus, under the leadership of National Broad-Based Youth Council Chairman Beavon Magare, argued that Arati’s leadership track record, youthful energy, and strong regional influence position him as a suitable partner in a possible Ruto re-election bid.

Addressing journalists in Kisii town, Magare said the decision was reached after wide consultations involving representatives from both the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), parties currently cooperating under the broad-based political arrangement.

According to him, a Ruto-Arati partnership would help strike a balance in national leadership while also consolidating political support in the Gusii region.

“The engagement will ensure regional political balance,” Magare said.

He further urged ODM leadership to consider including Arati in a proposed five-member negotiation team expected to engage UDA in discussions on the 2027 political framework.

Magare also called for a coordinated strategy between allied political formations, warning against internal competition that could weaken their shared agenda ahead of the polls.

He added that such a ticket would symbolize unity and inclusivity at the national level while acknowledging the Gusii community’s role in national politics.

“We believe such a ticket would send a powerful message of national unity, inclusivity, and regional balance. We also recognize the contribution our region has made and we must ensure we are part of the next government,” he said.

The caucus announced plans to tour different parts of the country to rally support for the proposed alliance, with a focus on youth engagement, national cohesion, and development priorities.

Caucus member Samson Mokaya said Arati’s leadership style and age make him well-suited for a senior national role.

“Simba Arati is young and energetic to help run the country, and he has managed to unite the community,” Mokaya said.

Esther Kwamboka and Lilian Kemunto also supported the proposal, pointing to Arati’s development record in Kisii County as evidence of his capability.

They added that the group has already begun mobilising young voters and encouraging voter registration ahead of the 2027 elections.

The endorsement comes at a time when political formations across the country are intensifying negotiations and alliances in preparation for a highly competitive presidential race expected to be shaped largely by coalition politics.
