The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has adopted a new political identity, with the coalition now known as the Ukombozi Alliance.

The new name was unveiled on Monday after a joint meeting of the coalition’s National Executive Council and Council chaired by Wiper Patriotic Front leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka.

The meeting brought together senior leaders from different political formations within the coalition as the opposition bloc seeks to strengthen its organisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Among those present were David Murathe, JB Muturi, Eugene Wamalwa, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Mohamed Ali, Caroli Omondi, Omingo Magara, Moitalel Ole Kenta, Lenny Kivuti and George Wainaina, among other leaders.

Speaking after the meeting, Kalonzo said the decision to adopt the Ukombozi Alliance name was meant to reflect a wider political mission beyond individual parties and personalities.

He linked the new identity to the messages “Komboa Kenya” and “Ni Ukombozi Time”, which have featured prominently in the political mobilisation of the Wiper Patriotic Front.

Kalonzo also stressed the need for opposition leaders to maintain unity as the country approaches the 2027 elections.

He said the leaders were bound by a common cause that should take precedence over individual ambitions, political parties and personal interests.

The coalition’s new identity is expected to provide a broader platform for political parties and leaders seeking to work together ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Siaya Governor James Orengo welcomed the rebranding and encouraged Kalonzo to remain firm in the political journey ahead.

Orengo told the coalition leadership that “the time is now”, as leaders begin positioning themselves and their parties ahead of the 2027 political contest.

The meeting also brought together representatives of different political interests, signalling efforts to maintain a united opposition platform despite the competing ambitions and alliances emerging ahead of the elections.

The Ukombozi Alliance will now have to build its structures, expand its membership and define its political programme as it engages other leaders and parties in the period leading to the 2027 General Election.

The rebranding marks a significant change in the coalition’s public identity as opposition leaders seek to consolidate their political cooperation under a new name.
