Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni has criticised remarks attributed to lawyer Danstan Omari concerning former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i, urging leaders from the Gusii community to avoid internal divisions as the country heads towards the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Kitutu Masaba, Omogeni challenged the comments directed at Matiang’i, arguing that the former Cabinet Secretary should be allowed to pursue his political ambitions without unnecessary attacks from members of his own community.
Omogeni said political differences should not be allowed to create divisions among the Abagusii, particularly at a time when several leaders from the region are positioning themselves ahead of the next elections.
The senator called on the community to maintain unity and engage in political competition with respect, warning against turning political disagreements into personal confrontations.
He also urged Gusii leaders to focus on issues affecting the community rather than engaging in what he described as unnecessary internal political battles.
Omogeni’s remarks come amid growing political activity in the Gusii region, with Matiang’i emerging as one of the prominent leaders associated with the 2027 presidential contest.
The senator maintained that Abagusii should be able to discuss their political future openly while respecting divergent views among leaders and supporters.
He said the community’s interests should remain at the centre of political discussions and that leaders should avoid actions that could weaken its unity.
The remarks are likely to add to the ongoing political debate in the Gusii region as leaders position themselves and their preferred political alliances ahead of the 2027 elections
