Oburu Oginga Announces UK Medical Check-Up, Urges ODM Members To Remain United

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga has travelled to the United Kingdom (UK) for a routine medical check-up and a period of rest, while assuring party members that the party’s operations will continue uninterrupted.

In a statement addressed to ODM members, supporters and the general public, Oburu said his visit to the UK follows advice from his doctors and the party leadership to undergo a comprehensive medical evaluation.

The party leader described the medical trip as a routine health check that comes with advancing age, while also using the occasion to address concerns over the leadership and direction of ODM during what he termed a period of transition.

Oburu said his temporary absence should not affect the party’s day-to-day activities, noting that ODM has established internal structures and systems capable of sustaining its operations.

“A true voice of the people and a mature political movement must be anchored upon strong, resilient structures that outlast us all,” Oburu said.

Arati And Nassir To Help Steer Party

The ODM leader singled out Deputy Party Leaders Paul Simba Arati, who is also the Governor of Kisii County, and Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, Governor of Mombasa County, as key figures who will help oversee the party’s affairs alongside the National Central Committee and secretariat.

Oburu expressed confidence in the two governors, describing them as capable stewards of the movement.

He said their leadership would help ensure continuity as ODM navigates its current transition.

The announcement comes at a time when political parties are increasingly positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, making questions surrounding party organisation, succession and leadership particularly significant.

Calls For Unity

Oburu also appealed to ODM members, officials and supporters across the country to remain united and cooperate with the party leadership during his absence.

He urged members to remain focused on what he described as shared national goals while giving the party leadership the necessary support to run its affairs.

The party leader thanked ODM supporters for their prayers, goodwill and continued support as he undertakes the medical check-up and takes time to rest and rejuvenate.

Oburu’s statement did not indicate how long he is expected to remain in the UK.
