Governor Kang’ata’s Driver Shot as Chaos Erupts After Linda Mwananchi Church Service in Nyahururu

Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata’s driver was shot on Sunday after chaos erupted during a Linda Mwananchi political rally in Nyahururu, shortly after leaders attended a church service at AIPCA Nyahururu Church.

According to Governor Kang’ata, his driver, identified as Gitari, sustained a gunshot wound as violence broke out when the leaders later addressed residents in Nyahururu Town. The governor announced the incident on his social media accounts, saying, “My driver Gitari has been shot during the Linda Mwananchi rally.”

The rally descended into chaos after suspected goons reportedly disrupted the gathering, forcing several leaders, including Kang’ata, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and other members of the Linda Mwananchi movement, to flee the venue for safety.

Speaking after the incident, Kang’ata alleged that his convoy had first come under attack while attending the church service before proceeding to the rally. He claimed his vehicle was stoned, blocked and briefly taken over by suspected goons, adding that Gitari was rushed to hospital with a bullet lodged in his chest. He said doctors were still determining whether the projectile was a live bullet or a rubber bullet.

The incident comes amid heightened political tensions in Nyandarua County ahead of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, with rival political camps exchanging accusations over campaign activities in the region.
