Absa Bank Kenya PLC has appointed Diana Mwaniki as Acting Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective July 1, 2026, pending regulatory approval.

The appointment follows the elevation of the bank’s former Chief Financial Officer, Yusuf Omari, to the position of Interim Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer after the resignation of Abdi Mohamed.

Mwaniki takes over the finance portfolio after serving as Head of Financial Decision Support since joining Absa Bank Kenya in September 2022. In her new role, she will oversee the bank’s finance function, providing strategic financial leadership and ensuring sound financial management as the institution continues implementing its growth strategy.

Speaking on the appointment, Interim Managing Director and CEO Yusuf Omari praised Mwaniki’s contribution to the bank’s financial operations.

“Diana has been instrumental in strengthening our financial planning and decision-support capabilities since joining Absa. She brings deep financial expertise, strong leadership and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Her appointment ensures continuity in our financial stewardship as we continue executing our strategic priorities and creating long-term value for our customers, colleagues, shareholders and the communities we serve,” he said.

Mwaniki brings more than 17 years of experience in the financial services sector, with expertise spanning financial strategy, performance management, governance, internal controls and risk management.

Before joining Absa, she held several senior finance leadership positions within the banking industry, where she played a key role in strengthening financial controls, enhancing governance frameworks, supporting regulatory compliance and improving risk management.

She holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the United States International University and a Bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance from Moi University. She is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) and has completed executive leadership training at Duke University.

The latest leadership changes are aimed at ensuring continuity within Absa Bank Kenya’s executive team as the lender maintains its focus on sustainable growth, strong financial stewardship and delivering long-term value to customers, shareholders and other stakeholders.
