Shabana FC Set for Major Technical Announcement Amid Stability and Growth Push

Having been in the Kenya Premier League for three seasons after a 17-year absence, Shabana FC has managed to establish steady growth and a structured development system across all levels of the club, Secretary General Dr. Eliphan Kerama has said.

Speaking during a live interview on Sporty FM on Wednesday, 1st July 2026, Dr. Kerama outlined the club’s progress, technical restructuring, and squad stability, while confirming that the full technical bench will be unveiled later this week.

He explained that Shabana FC has expanded into a multi-team setup comprising the senior team, Shabana Youth FC, and Shabana Starlets FC, a move aimed at strengthening long-term competitiveness and talent development.

The youth team continues to perform strongly in the FKF Nyanza Regional League, where it currently leads the table with 43 points. At the same time, Shabana Starlets FC completed an impressive season in the Women’s National Super League, finishing unbeaten and securing promotion to the Kenya Women’s Premier League.

Dr. Kerama said these achievements demonstrate the club’s commitment to building success at all levels rather than focusing only on the senior team.

On coaching changes, he confirmed that Bernard Mwalala left the club after receiving a better offer from Bandari FC and was replaced by Andrew Ongwae. He also clarified that the departure of Coach Peter Okidi was the result of a mutual agreement following off-the-pitch challenges, not a dismissal.

He further noted that Coach Osborn Monday joined the technical bench on a short-term arrangement to support Ongwae due to his availability and familiarity with the squad, before leaving after his contract expired to join another Nairobi-based club.

On squad stability, Dr. Kerama assured supporters that Shabana FC will retain about 90 percent of its current players, confirming that key figures such as Brian Michira, Kevin Omundi, and Dizzo remain part of the team.

He also addressed concerns over financial transparency, stating that Shabana FC is among the few clubs in Kenya that publicly disclose gate collection figures after every home match, a practice he said reflects accountability to supporters and stakeholders.
