President Ruto Commissions Ngong Road–Naivasha Road Flyover to Improve Traffic Flow

President William Ruto has officially commissioned the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road flyover, a major infrastructure project expected to ease traffic congestion along one of Nairobi’s busiest transport corridors. The ceremony attracted senior government officials, engineers, contractors and residents who gathered to witness the opening of the new road interchange.

Among those who attended the commissioning were Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir, Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) Director General, officials from the Nairobi City County Government led by the Governor Johnson Sakaja, MPs Felis Odiwour and John Kiarie,  engineers involved in the construction of the project, and representatives of the contractor. The leaders applauded the completion of the flyover, describing it as an important investment in the country’s transport infrastructure.

Speaking during the event, President Ruto said the government remains committed to expanding and modernising Kenya’s road network to support economic growth and improve the movement of people and goods. He noted that reliable infrastructure is essential in reducing travel time, lowering transport costs and enhancing productivity for businesses and commuters.

The newly completed flyover is expected to significantly reduce congestion at the busy Ngong Road and Naivasha Road junction, an area that has experienced heavy traffic for many years, particularly during peak hours. By allowing vehicles to move more efficiently through the intersection, the project is expected to improve connectivity between western Nairobi, the Southern Bypass and other key transport routes.

Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir said the project forms part of the government’s broader plan to improve mobility within Nairobi and address traffic bottlenecks through strategic infrastructure development. KeNHA Director General Eng. Kung’u Ndung’u commended the engineers and contractors for delivering the project, expressing confidence that it would serve motorists for many years while improving road safety.

Motorists and residents welcomed the opening of the flyover, expressing optimism that it will shorten commuting times and reduce the daily traffic jams that have long affected the area. The project adds to a series of ongoing road developments aimed at improving transport efficiency and supporting Nairobi’s growing population and economy.
