Archbishop Dr. JJ Gitahi has praised Jubilee presidential candidate Dr. Fred Matiang’i for his role in overseeing Kenya’s transition from analogue to digital television broadcasting in 2013.

Speaking during a church service attended by Dr. Matiang’i, Archbishop Gitahi commended the former Cabinet Secretary for Information and Communications Technology for his firm leadership in implementing the digital migration process despite facing resistance.

The Archbishop noted that Matiang’i’s determination was instrumental in advancing digital television broadcasting in the country, adding that Githima TV’s current position could have been different without his contribution to the transition.

He credited Matiang’i with standing firm during the implementation of the digital migration policy, which marked a significant shift in Kenya’s television broadcasting industry.

Archbishop Gitahi also acknowledged the presence of young people from Generation Z, noting that many had turned up for the service after learning that Matiang’i would be attending.

Their turnout, he observed, demonstrated the enthusiasm surrounding the Jubilee presidential candidate and the interest his presence generated among the younger generation.

The remarks highlighted Matiang’i’s past role in the ICT sector as he continues his political engagements ahead of the 2027 General Election.
