The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties has approved the reservation of the name Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM), giving the proposed political party a 90-day window to proceed with the next steps in its registration process.

In a letter dated October 1, 2026, Registrar of Political Parties and CEO J.C. Lorionokou informed Bansbury Associates Advocates LLP that the application to reserve the name had been approved.

The letter cites Section 4B of the Political Parties Act and references the judgment in PPDTA/E001/2026, Michael Caroli Omondi & Another versus Registrar of Political Parties, as well as Section 8 of the Political Parties Act.

According to the Registrar, the reservation will remain valid for a period not exceeding 90 days from the date of the letter.

The approval marks a significant step for the promoters of Linda Mwananchi Movement as they seek to establish the political organisation within Kenya’s legal framework.

The Registrar’s communication, however, specifically concerns reservation of the party name. It does not state that the organisation has completed the entire process of registering as a political party.

The applicants will therefore be required to undertake the subsequent procedures provided for under the Political Parties Act within the applicable period.

The October 1 communication was signed by Lorionokou in his capacity as Registrar of Political Parties/CEO.

The development comes as political actors and emerging formations prepare for the 2027 electoral cycle, with the registration and organisation of political parties expected to remain a major feature of Kenya’s political landscape.
