Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader H.E Dr.Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has endorsed former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s claim that the late opposition leader Raila Odinga won the 2022 presidential election, reigniting debate over the disputed poll ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kalonzo said Uhuru, who was President during the 2022 election, was in a position to know what transpired during the electoral process, although he did not have the constitutional mandate to declare the final results.

The Wiper leader challenged Kenyans to unite around a common principle ahead of the next election—that no election should ever be stolen again.

He also put the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on notice, demanding an electoral process that is free, fair, transparent and verifiable.

According to Kalonzo, the Gen Z-led protests have fundamentally transformed Kenyans’ political consciousness, making voters less willing to tolerate electoral manipulation or the alleged theft of their votes.

“The people will no longer accept the stealing of their votes,” Kalonzo said, warning that the conduct of the 2027 election would be closely scrutinised.

Bomas controversy

The Wiper Patriotic Front leader,Dr.Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka also revisited the controversy surrounding the national tallying centre during the 2022 presidential election, defending the Opposition’s push to move the process away from Bomas of Kenya.

He said the demand was a deliberate countermeasure aimed at protecting the integrity of the election and preventing the manipulation of results.

The remarks are likely to place renewed pressure on the IEBC to demonstrate how it intends to secure public confidence in the next presidential vote, particularly over tallying, verification and the announcement of results.

Kalonzo spoke in Kyuso during a ceremony to hand over a new school bus to Mama Pauline Kalonzo Girls School.
