Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria has recorded a statement at Nakuru Central Police Station over remarks allegedly made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua accusing some Nakuru leaders of planning to cause chaos during the 2027 General Election.
Gikaria says he has formally lodged a complaint over the remarks, which he considers defamatory and damaging to his reputation.
The legislator has also issued Gachagua with a 72-hour demand notice seeking a retraction of the alleged statements and an apology.
Gikaria has warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period will leave him with no option but to institute a defamation suit against the former Deputy President.
The complaint comes amid heightened political activity in Nakuru ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders from different political camps trading accusations over the possibility of violence and political unrest.
Gikaria has maintained that political differences should not be used to make allegations that could portray elected leaders as planning or encouraging violence.
