Government agencies and public institutions have converged at Uhuru Park in Nairobi as Kenya marks Customer Service Week, placing greater emphasis on responsive, accessible and citizen-centred service delivery.
The week-long event, running from October 5 to 9, brings together government ministries, departments, agencies and county governments to showcase services while engaging members of the public on how public institutions can improve the customer experience.
This year’s celebrations are being held under the theme “Extra Mile: Transforming Public Service Through Customer Service Excellence”, with the tagline “Huduma Bora, Taifa Bora.”
The activities at Uhuru Park provide an opportunity for citizens to interact directly with public institutions, seek information and access selected government services without having to navigate the usual institutional channels.
The event also seeks to shift the focus of public service beyond simply providing services to ensuring that citizens are treated with professionalism, dignity and efficiency.
Participating institutions are using the week to explain their mandates, receive feedback from citizens and demonstrate how technology and improved service systems can make government services easier to access.
The gathering comes at a time when expectations for faster and more transparent public services continue to grow, with citizens increasingly demanding accountability and convenient access to government services.
Customer Service Week therefore offers public institutions an opportunity not only to celebrate their achievements but also to identify gaps in service delivery and respond to concerns raised by the people they serve.
With Uhuru Park serving as a central meeting point, the celebrations are expected to reinforce the message that quality customer service is an essential part of effective governance and national development.
The broader message is clear: better service to citizens is not an optional extra, but a fundamental measure of a government that puts people first.
